"Why We Celebrate Navaratri!" & Shailaputri Shloka and Mantra

After the passing of the summer equinox, as the nights grow longer, the first nine nights of the lunar month are more conducive to be receptive to the energies of the divine feminine. She is represented with 9 different names and forms corresponding to the nature of each progressing night.

Each of these deities are also ascribed with specific attainments or siddhis, which can be most easily attained on that particular night. This Sadhana culminates on the tenth day, called as vijaya dashami, the day of victory of the finer and subtler yet fierce aspects of existence, represented by goddess Shakti over the grosser, more rigid and fearful aspects of existence, represented by mahiShAsura.
